The Basics of Poker

Poker

Unlike most games of chance, Poker has specific rules and regulations. These are designed to maximize winnings and minimize losses in the event of a poor hand.

Most Poker games will involve an ante. The ante is generally a set amount that is bet by each player. This is usually based on the stakes in the game.

Most poker games are played with chips. Poker chips are usually of different colors and denominations. The smallest chip is usually the white chip.

Aside from putting chips into the pot, the player with the best hand may win the pot by bluffing. For instance, the player may bet that he has the best hand and then fold. He may also win by making a bet that no other player calls.

The poker rules in the game should be clearly outlined and documented on a piece of paper. Often, a special fund called the kitty is created. This fund is used to pay for the next deck of cards.
