Players can use the cards they receive to make a better hand, or discard them. In addition, wild cards are also used to supplement other cards.

Poker games can be found in countries with different deck configurations. Usually, the 52 card English deck is used. Other variations include short packs, which can be used in some countries.

Before the game begins, players and the dealer decide how many chips each will take. This is known as the ante. Typically, the ante is the minimum bet that must be placed.

Once the ante is set, the dealer starts the game by shuffles the cards. One at a time, the dealer deals the cards to the players.

After all players have been dealt, they must make a bet. Depending on the type of game, the bet is either a blind or ante.

Once a bet is placed, the next player must make a call. The player may raise if he believes the bet is worth it. However, the raiser cannot force the other players to continue playing.
